Craft Fair Galore
July 21st, 2009A couple of weeks ago, I told you I was planning on visiting the Renegade Craft Fair in LA. Well I did and it was amazing! Unfortunately my camera died {thanks to my abundant picture taking while visiting Indiana}, so I only have a few images to share with you. Hey, better some than none right? Here’s a mini tour…..
The Weekend Store is super cool! Adjowah Brodie is the creative force behind this company. She designs and creates her thoughtfully handmade line of recycled vintage accessories in her sunny Oakland studio while her lil pup Buck catches a tan on the back deck. It’s true. She wrote that in her bio! My two favorite pieces: the vintage typewriter key necklaces and the watch part necklaces. So inspiring!
Come 3 o’clock in the afternoon, I heard the most beautiful chaos. LA based jazz-punk mobile ensemble, Killsonic proved to be an epic show during a penthouse-shaking, hour long performance! Because every craft fair deserves a live marching band.
My boyfriend came running to me with such excitement when he discovered Bug House. After making my way to their booth, I instantly understood why. They use images of old music album spines and create wall art and even furniture pieces. I have never seen anything like it before and definitely would love to own one of their pieces. Kuddos to Jeff & Rebecca!
What do I say about Campfire Goods? Basically, they’re pretty darn cool! How can they not be? Their goal: “We are three graphic designers/illustrators/printmakers who are looking to spread state and city pride worldwide! We are all from somewhere and it’s time we show some hometown pride! We’ve always felt that there are three main areas of concentration in our shirts…Good Typography, Good Design, and Good Humor!” See. Pretty darn cool!So in a nutshell, that’s my experience at the Renegade. Well that times 50! It was my first time checking out Renegade and I think I’ll definitely be back, maybe as a browser or maybe as a vendor. Only time will tell.
Speaking of time, you can bet your sweet behind that come next August, I will be in attendance at the Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle! It’s another crazy-big, crazy-creative craft fair in one of my crazy-favorite cities! If you read this and you end up going next month, send me a note! I’d love to hear all about the fun time I know you’re going to have! Until next year rolls around, you can find me at the sewing machine!
