today i accomplished a small something

i wrote my bio. and i feel pretty darn good about it!

Bio

My daily mantra, “Keep the positivity flowing, keep our bodies clean and limber, and make our ever-changing surroundings a little more pleasing to all of the senses.”

I’m a dreamer and a total goofball, discovering everything beautiful this world has to offer. My idea of fun is anything from spending an afternoon thrifting and collecting vintage lovelies to traveling across the world to watch the sun rise. I wish that autumn was the longest season and that I had a maple tree all to myself.

Today I am 26 and life is good! Ever since I was a tiny tot, I have loved everything that is art: paint, oil pastels, paper, fabric designs, making faces in the mirror and having conversations with my dog, Molly. Growing up, I would spend hours in the grassy field of my neighborhood park, sketchbook and 64 crayola crayons in hand, just staring up into the sky. Life has always inspired me and color continues to enliven me. I truly believe that if everyone could take a few minutes out of their day to do something that makes them laugh, well then, the world would be a far better place.

My personal intention with JessBecause is to offer you fun & frilly goodies that complement your everyday modern life! Whether that piece is a simply sweet note card to mail to your BFF, a new throw pillow for that living room reading chair, or that just-right vintage find I discovered on a thrift-day field trip. The point of all of this…. to remind you to love life, laugh at the small things, and appreciate everyone you share a “Hello” with in the morning, a “Goodnight” with in the evening, and everything in between.

Now go have FUN!

oh! and i've also:
* gotten my financial paperwork in order
* filed all the very important tax papers
* and a few other things that i think i should just remain hush hush on :)

i have a very big and very exciting task in the works. last weekend, josh and i purchased a lot of counter top along with some screws, nuts, bolts, a drill bit, and some wood... you know, the essentials. and once we got back home, we installed our very own custom desk/workspace! okay, he installed it and i assisted. and by assisting, i cooked food when he or i were hungry and i helped find where the screws, nuts, and bolts were placed after we unloaded the van. but i did actually help to carry the counter top! it was a lot of work but we're both so happy we decided to go for it! along with the desk installation, i also painted the walls a robin's egg blue and i couldn't be happier with the color choice! it's so happy and fresh. i smile every time i walk into the room!

next step, get started on organizing my space! most people don't know this about me, but i love, i mean LOVE, to organize things. it doesn't really matter what the things are or who owns these things. i just love to find anything a home. and i love that everything has their little space that's easily accessible.

when i should have been working my 9-5 job last week, i instead found myself browsing the world wide web and boy am i happy i did! i stumbled upon this photo and i'm going to keep it around for some space inspiration when i bring over my mom's sewing machine.

we have officially cut the yellow ribbon and have opened our doors to our shop!

{confession : i'm a little nervous, but very much excited! this whole process.... getting paperwork in order, setting up my shop, creating special pieces.... it's all been so much fun! i can't imagine not following this dream and i'm more than giddy to be able to share my work with you! i owe a BIG thank you and a thousand kisses to my mister. he's been my support pillar and a vending machine stock full of laughter!}

as of this morning, we have a very special piece available and ready to come home to you..... it's a fun and frisky birthday card, specially designed for that lucky friend of yours who gets to be the center of attention for a full 24 hours!

over the next couple of days we will be adding new pieces to the shop, so keep your eyes peeled.

i often times find myself "in a funk" come monday morning. maybe it's because my weekends are such a delight that i would prefer to relive them for an hour or two rather than join the work-force heard and walk back into my 9-5 desk job life.

i have a pretty predictable routine monday mornings. i unload my purse, my lunch "box", my workout clothes {if i remember}, usually a magazine or two all onto my purple plush beanbag chair. i turn on my cube's motherboard ship, the pc, then take a few deep breaths and partake in a mini debate, with myself, regarding the topic of this morning's beverage selection. i've been really good lately and quite proud of myself for saying no to coffee, and yes to tea but for whatever reason, monday is the exception and i just gotta have my morning cup 'o joe. so, i walk over to our tonybucks latte machine and brew a very tasty sugarfree vanilla latte. by this time, it's now 9am and my creative department is being called into the "fishbowl" for our weekly meeting. yes, over here at Mad Men Advertising Agency*, we name all our conference rooms. it's just plain fun. in our meetings, we gab about what everyone did over the weekend and eventually get down to business. my personal mothership, the brain, is still struggling to function that i just barely, and gracefully, make it through the week's job list and back to my desk where i eagerly find something, anything to wake me up. this is what i like to refer to as my daily dose of visual optimism! quite simply meaning, i need inspiration and motivation.... things that are crafty, things that are techy.... something new to spark my thought bubble and get me rolling.

today i have happily discovered fabric worm and i am in love. as of late, i have been on a rampid hunt for just the right prints to create a few secret goodies i'll be posting in my shop soon. it's harder than i thought. and i'm pickier than i thought. here are just some of my favorites. enjoy!!
