  • Type In The Streets

    August 13th, 2009

When I found designer Jesse Southerland, I smiled wide. A new spin on typography. Photography taken in and around Indiana. Oh yeah, I’m a fan.

  • Need. More. Blueprint.

    August 12th, 2009

Lately, I’ve been going through magazine withdrawal. I’m just not happy with what I’m seeing in the realm of design and type. Real Simple is too simple, Ready Made is getting thinner by the issue, and I’m not entirely in love with Domino anymore. I miss the days of Blueprint! I just loved everything about that magazine…. the colors, the layout, the imagery and the type {oh the type}! I particularly love one of the serif typefaces that frequented the pages: Kursivschrift.

  • The Disappearing Face of New York.

    August 10th, 2009

An amazing photo documentary of storefronts from small family run businesses throughout New York City captured by James and Karla Murray. If JessBecause decides to open up a storefront one day, we hope it will look and feel as mom-and-pop, well-loved and worn as these do.

  • Type Thursday : Ali Edwards

    July 23rd, 2009

I’ve been a huge fan of Ali Edwards for quite a while. Her work is truly inspiring and she seems like a genuinely wonderful person. On top of that, her handwriting is the bomb, and she’s been kind enough to make it a free typeface! Now race off and download it here as soon as you can!

  • Type Thursday : Feel Script

    July 16th, 2009

Found Feel Script on the cover of a Veer catalog sometime last year. Just a simply gorgeous script.

Image captured from the Feel Script Specimen PDF, which you can download over at Veer.com. Fifteen pages of Feel Script to feast your eyes on! Mmm, delicious!

  • Type Thursday : Coney Island

    July 2nd, 2009

To celebrate July, and summer in general, I have decided that every week, when Thursday rolls around to say good morning to me, I will share with you a current crush, a type crush. Officially introducing you to “Type Thursday”!

I saw Coney Island and immediately fell in love! I just might have to use this cute typeface on some new cards! What do you think? Would you like to receive a Coney Island card in your mailbox? I realize you don’t yet know what this said card looks like. I’m just nudging you to kick start that imagination of yours.

  • Bold & Noble

    June 30th, 2009

If I were a teacher {or a mom}, I would have these prints in my kids’ classroom {or bedroom}. They’re colorful and educational. Oh, and super fun! Thanks Bold & Noble. You’re swell.

  • ABCs Please

    June 9th, 2009

I love clean, bold type. Nothing new there. Did you also know I’ve always had a fascination with sets of drawers that resemble library catalog card drawers? All those tiny, cute boxes for organizing the schlew of stuff one can accumulate. It’s another corner of heaven for me. So naturally when I discovered Kent and London’s Alphabet Drawers, my heart did a little dance to the beat of pitter patter.

Inspired by vintage printing blocks, this beautifully finished chest of 26 drawers is made from solid oak, the perfect place to file everything from A-Z! The Alphabet chest of drawers stands around waist height! So rad.

    * Found Kent and London thanks to Orange Yo Yo. Thanks yo!

  • OhKayK’s Eye Charts

    June 2nd, 2009

OhKayK has great cards and wall art in her etsy shop featuring uplifting quotes by famous people. I love their graphic layouts, but to be honest I have a sweet spot for eye charts {since I’ve been sporting spectacles since the age of 13}. I particularly like the design on the left, but all of them are great finds and would make for even better gifts!
